The situation in Manaus is already drawing the attention of our neighboring countries. The Bulletin this Tuesday indicated that 1,809 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus have already been registered. Mass graves have been opened in the cemetery to bury victims of Covid-19.
The city that supported the country's conservative movement so much is now suffering from the impacts of the new coronavirus, which is taking around 100 people a day. The collapse is taking hold, the population is suffering due to the lack of space in funeral homes.
In a funereal interview with Amazon Network, The Mayor of Manaus, Arthur Virgílio Neto, reported that there were 106 burials carried out in Manaus, last Monday (20), and 36 were people who died at home.

Manaus is in danger – authorities are on alert
With this sad situation in the city, the mayor said that the state of public calamity with the scenario of the new coronavirus has already been installed. The latest update made by the Health Surveillance Foundation (FVS-AM), of the 2,270 confirmed cases in Amazonas until this Tuesday (21), 1,809 are from Manaus.
A video has gone viral on the internet linking the high number of burials carried out per day in Manaus during the coronavirus pandemic with the period of other respiratory syndromes, such as the H1N1 flu. For the mayor, the data shows a need for measures to assist patients who remain at home.
In Amazonas, the burial rate has increased alarmingly.
This is true both in the ICU and in hospital beds, according to information from the health secretary, Simone Papaiz.
He emphasized:
“I’ll give you some data. Before Covid-19, the number of burials in Manaus was between 20 and 35. 35 when there were seasonal flus, like H1N1, which was heavy. Suddenly, these numbers started jumping. One day, it hit 66 burials. Then it went to 88. Yesterday [Sunday (19)], there were 121 burials and today [Monday (20)], 106.”
Also according to information provided by the mayor, in an interview with Rede Amazônica, of the 122 burials carried out on Sunday, 17 people died at home.
The number was even higher on Monday (20). Of the 106 burials, 36 people also died in their homes.
So what? What to do? This is the question that needs to be answered. As of the closing of this article, no action has yet been taken by the Federal Government to help contain the virus in the city.
