Mayor of Foz do Iguaçu suspends ISSQN exemption for bus companies The mayor of Foz do Iguaçu, in the west of the Paraná.

Chico Brasileiro (PSD) suspended the exemption from the Tax on Services of Any Nature (ISSQN) for the three companies that make up the Sorriso Consortium.
The decision was announced this Tuesday (18). The exemption had been granted in September 2019, after an agreement between the consortium and the city hall.
In return, the companies would have to put 25 air-conditioned buses into operation.
However, according to the city hall, the deadline for fulfilling this contract ended on January 31st and, as of this Tuesday, seven air-conditioned buses were missing.
The exemption would represent around R$1.5 million annually, according to the city hall.
The Transport and Traffic Institute of Foz do Iguaçu reported that the measure was taken so that improvements could be offered without affecting bus fares.
Mayor's Decision
According to the press office of Consórcio Sorriso, initially, no one will comment on the mayor's decision.
The suspension According to the city hall, of the 25 air-conditioned buses that should make up the city's bus fleet, only 18 are working.
Of these, 15 began operating in 2019 and the other three began operating in February 2020.
“Considering that the consortium did not comply fully, it complied in part, our decision is that from January the ISS exemption for public transport companies will be suspended”, said the mayor.
According to Brasileiro, the exemption was only valid for the months of October, November and December, while the consortium fulfilled the contract.
Municipal Consortium
Buses from a company that makes up the Foz municipal public transport consortium will be stopped during the workers' strike Raphaela Potter/Foz Removal of buses.
The City of Foz do Iguaçu reported that it is working on the hypothesis that, without the tax exemption, companies will be able to withdraw the buses.
If this happens, according to the mayor, the city administration will go to court to ensure that the buses continue to operate.
“If they take it away, the municipality will take action.
Because it was not the population or the municipality that made the mistake.
The consortium was the one that didn’t fulfill the contract, so if they remove the municipality, they have the means and will act, and they won’t let them act as they want”, he highlighted.
