The global public health outbreak caused by the Coronavirus is far from over, and many Caixa customers are requesting a delay in mortgage payments to help them organize their financial lives.
In an official statement this week, Caixa Econômica Federal has already registered more than 100 thousand requests to pause mortgage payments.
This benefit was announced on Thursday, the 19th, by the vice-president of the public bank, Jair Mahl. There is still no precise estimate of how much this represents in terms of values.
What can happen with this change?
Due to the very serious problem with the new coronavirus and its impacts on the economy, Caixa announced last week that individuals will be able to request a pause of up to two payments through the app itself, without having to go to branches.
Who is this new measure for?
But according to Caixa, the measure also applies to construction companies, which have loan contracts for the production of properties. However, the pause does not eliminate the interest provided for in the contracts.
In addition, at this moment, the bank is internally evaluating the possibility of extending the pause to up to three installments, both for individuals and legal entities, said the Caixa team, during a video conference organized by the Brazilian Chamber of the Construction Industry (CBIC).
Another important piece of information is that the extension of the benefit should be announced on Wednesday or Thursday. “Caixa is a liquid bank, it is the bank of the Brazilian people. I hope we can get through this period without too many problems,” said Mahl.
Therefore, the Caixa team explained during the conference that it already has almost 70% of its contingent working from home and that it has been working hard to guarantee the flow of resources to construction companies.
As there are minor problems in sending technicians to inspect the works on site, the bank will agree to release the funds upon delivery of a spreadsheet from the construction company itself describing the progress, accompanied by a photo and video.
