Construction work at Pacaembu Hospital is progressing and now has partitions for 200 beds 03-26-2020

Work on the field hospital set up by the City of São Paulo at the stadium Pacaembu, in the west zone of the Capital, will be delivered this Friday, at 3 pm, with the presence of Mayor Bruno Covas and Governor João Doria (both from the PSDB).

There is still no set date for the start of patient care, but the municipal administration expects activities to begin next Tuesday (31). The space was ready in exactly one week.

Therefore, 200 beds are expected to be installed at the Pacaembu Stadium, which will be adapted to accommodate patients. Another 1,800 beds will be set up at the Anhembi Complex in the city's northern zone.

Covas visited Anhembi last Wednesday to inspect the field hospital set up in the events center's warehouse. The municipal administration has not ruled out the possibility of opening beds in new locations if necessary.

Although the use of these hospital facilities will be dedicated to low-complexity patients, to free up municipal hospitals and ICUs for patients considered to be in serious condition.

However, the temporary spaces will not triage cases and will only receive patients referred by hospitals or basic health units (UBSs) of the city hall.

Pacaembu Works

The Pacaembu and Anhembi structures cost R$1,400,000 to assemble and will involve the work of approximately 2,550 health professionals.

The works will be handed over this Friday at 3 p.m., with the presence of the mayor and governor; services are scheduled to begin next Tuesday.

ICU

Vacancies for these beds will be made available to people who are being treated in Basic Health Units and public hospitals and are not admitted to Intensive Care Units (ICU).

Therefore, the Municipal Health Department will conduct screening on the equipment. The Pacaembu complex will remain closed while it is being used as a hospital.
