The Covid-19 pandemic has reached Brazil. According to information as of last night, March 23, there are at least 904 infected people and 11 deaths here in Brazil. Thus, as a way to maintain control, the government has adopted the social isolation , and online sales increased.

Initially, social isolation is the most effective way to prevent the spread of the virus. As a result, some people are working from home, known as teleworking. With more time at home, some products have seen increased demand, such as online purchases of medicines, food, hygiene, and cleaning products.

Boosts online sales

In online shopping, some companies stand out. André Dias, director of Compre & Confie, analyzes the market based on actual online sales, representing a proportion of more than 80% in digital retail. His analysis of the best-selling companies includes Americanas.com, Extra, Carrefour, Via Varejo, and Magazine Luiza.

While online shopping is common during times of crisis, with the pandemic preventing physical contact, sales are even higher. On the other hand, electronics purchases have fallen significantly, driven by consumer profiles. People are looking for cheaper items, products that make up their shopping baskets.

Electronics drops occur in the following proportions:

-62%: camcorders and drones;
-37%: games;
-29%: electronics;
-20%: automotive.

Therefore, Brazilians are looking for essential products, such as basic food baskets, canned goods, personal hygiene, and cleaning supplies. Demand for medicines and pharmacy items, shampoo, and shaving creams has declined, and men who regularly shaved for social distancing meetings have declined. From this same perspective, everyone's lives have changed, and with it, the economic landscape.
