What is Emergency Aid and who is eligible?
THE Emergency Aid is a financial benefit created by Brazilian Government with the aim of helping informal workers, self-employed workers, micro-entrepreneurs and low-income families with a monthly allowance of R$1,600 during the pandemic.
THE Emergency Aid was created during the pandemic COVID-19 in 2020, when many workers had to adapt to maintain their business and even their companies. Therefore, this aid helped maintain the income of many Brazilians.
Therefore, all those who are informal workers, self-employed, individual microentrepreneurs (MEI) and also members of needy families who do not have an income that exceeds one and a half minimum wages, may be entitled to receive the Emergency Aid.
However, new registrations are not being accepted for the 2021 Emergency Aid. Only those who register in 2020 are entitled to continue receiving this benefit.
How does the 2021 Emergency Aid work?
Currently, according to the Provisional Measure 1,039/2021, only one person from each registered family will be able to receive the Emergency Aid in 2021. The benefit portion will be divided as follows: part of it will be for female heads of households, an amount of approximately R$ 375.00.
People who are part of low-income families and who live alone will be able to receive around R$150.00. And those who work as microentrepreneurs, self-employed and informal workers will receive an amount of approximately R$250.00.
Check the list below to see who may be eligible to receive the 2021 Emergency Aid:
- Self-employed
- Informal workers
- Microentrepreneurs
- Low income family
- Women heads of households
- Families that are part of the Bolsa Família program
However, to receive the 2021 Emergency Aid You must meet certain requirements. For example, you must be over 18 years old, not have a formal job, and have a family income of no more than half the minimum wage, and you must not have any family member who earns more than three minimum wages.
And as we mentioned above, those who already receive the Family Allowance can request the Emergency Aid, as long as it is a higher amount than what they already receive in cost of living assistance under the social program.
