Spotify: learn how to listen to music even without the need for internet

In addition to being able to download music and podcasts to listen to offline, you can download full albums, tracks and podcasts to the app and listen to everything without needing the internet.

THE Spotify says that it is allowed to download up to 3,333 songs per device, and on up to three different devices (smart TV, smartphone and tablet).

How to use Spotify offline (desktop app)

On desktop (laptops), you can activate the “Download” option on the right side of any playlist. You can also activate this option for all songs.

This happens when you click on “Your Library”.

However, there is no way to download full albums or podcasts to desktop. Once the download is complete, the down arrow is shown next to the song name.

As long as you have internet and the app is not in offline mode, you can still listen to what you downloaded.

How to use Spotify offline mode (desktop app)

On macOS (Macbooks and iMacs)

  1. Access the app Spotify;
  2. Tap Spotify from the Apple menu at the top of the screen;
  3. Go to the “Offline Mode” option.

On Windows (Windows 10 only)

  1. Access the app Spotify;
  2. Tap “File” in the Windows menu at the top of the screen;
  3. Go to the “Offline mode” option.

How to use Spotify offline (mobile app – smartphones)

On your smartphone, you can leave the app in offline mode to save data (even when connected) or to listen to it when there is no Wi-Fi nearby.

You will be able to listen to downloaded music or podcasts whenever you are not connected to the internet, but if you want you can leave your cell phone in “offline mode”.  

  1. Click on “Your Library”;
  2. Click on “Configure”;
  3. Click on “Playback” and activate the “Offline Mode” option.

 If you want, you can enable whatever you want to download to be downloaded via 3G, 4G mobile data, because by default, it is already disabled.

How to enable music downloads

  1. Click on “Your Library”;
  2. Click on “Configure”;
  3. Click on “Music Quality”;
  4. Select “Download over cellular” under “Download”.

However, it is recommended that you download songs when you are connected to Wi-Fi to reduce data usage.

Common issues when using Spotify Offline

Maybe when trying to use the Spotify Offline, some people may report having problems. Check out the steps below in these situations.

  • See if the device is in sleep mode;
  • Check if there is free space on the device's memory (at least 1 GB);
  • You can only download music and podcasts to up to three devices;
  • You can download a maximum of 3,333 songs per device;
  • You must have an active Premium subscription. View your subscription status;
  • Your account must be used online at least once a month.
