According to the director-general, it is not possible to say when the pandemic will reach its peak. The number of deaths due to the virus has already exceeded 5,000. Tedros' recommendation is that sick people stay at home and that healthy people cancel unnecessary travel and large social events. "Follow the recommendations of your local or national health authority," he said.

The Secretary-General recalled that each country is free to decide its own measures to contain the pandemic in light of the specific needs of its population.
Michael Ryan, the UN executive director, said during the press conference that since the coronavirus cases have become a pandemic, each individual person has become responsible for stopping transmissions. “Every member of society knows what to do, every member of society is informed,” the UN director said.
Situation in Brazil

G7 leaders to hold video conference
