To contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, the government of SP decreed the closure of establishments
On Wednesday (18), Governor João Doria announced the closure of all shopping malls and gyms in the capital of São Paulo and the metropolitan region. To contain the spread of the virus, the closure should last until April 30.
The deadline for closing activities in shopping malls is next Monday and for gyms, until Sunday the 22nd.

Dialogue about measurement
“All shopping malls must be closed until March 23. In other words, from tomorrow, March 19, until March 23, shopping malls must be closed for health reasons and to protect their employees, professionals and, of course, people. The closure is scheduled until April 30,” said Doria. According to him, the closure may happen gradually, but should occur by next Monday at the latest.
The state's Secretary of Economic Development pointed out that the measure to close establishments was discussed with entities in the sector.
“This measure was discussed in detail with the sector and it was understood that the priority is people’s well-being. The most important thing is to avoid crowds. The focus is on combating the coronavirus. It was a work that was discussed and planned so that it could be done without panic and prioritizing the well-being of the population and the well-being of the professionals who work in these spaces,” said Patrícia Ellen, the state’s Secretary of Economic Development.
After the end of the press conference, the Secretary of Economic Development contradicted what was said by the governor and said, through a note, that “the Government of São Paulo recommends the closure of shopping malls in the capital and Greater SP starting next Monday (23). It is not a determination”.
End of crowds
The governor stressed that crowds on beaches and clubs are not recommended and that the elderly should avoid leaving home.
“Crowds are not recommended. Our recommendation is: avoid crowds,” said Doria. “Common sense and prudence are up to each citizen. These are established, decisive and well-founded measures, based on information from the medical and health sector.”
