The news caught many by surprise. Sabesp reported that the São Paulo State Sanitation and Energy Regulatory Agency (Arsesp) had decided on a tariff adjustment of 2.4924% for the company.
The letter from the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Environment requested the agency to postpone the payment, providing a 90-day adjustment as an additional measure to the Decree recognizing the state of public calamity.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Arsesp postponed the publication of the new tariff tables until June 10, 2020.
The readjustment authorization granted to Sabesp took into account the variation in the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), the official inflation indicator, in the period, of 3.3032%; the efficiency factor, known as Factor X, of 0.6920%; and the quality factor, called Factor Q, of -0.1188%.

About the adjustment in São Paulo for Sabesp
Another very important thing was reported: according to the relevant fact from Sabesp sent to the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM).
However, it's worth remembering that these changes will remain in effect until June 10, 2020, when the adjusted tariff tables will be published. Although these include those for the municipalities of Iperó, Pereiras, Santa Branca, and Santa Isabel, they will be applicable 30 days after their publication.
Therefore, compensatory adjustments for the postponement of the annual tariff adjustment will be calculated until June 10, 2020. This amount to be offset will be distributed among the tariffs to be applied. This period will be between July 10, 2020, and May 10, 2021, the date of application of the results of the 3rd Ordinary Tariff Review in São Paulo.
Finally, Arsesp assessed the economic balance-financial provision of services in order to reestablish it in a timely manner, if necessary.
And of course, as well as a result of the impact of the exemption from water/sewage bills for consumers in the Social Residential and Favela Residential usage categories.
In short, people registered on March 19, 2020, for 90 days, for accounts issued from April 1 of this year, which will cover all municipalities operated by the company.
