Carrefour launches solidarity campaign: “We need to return part of the profits to society”

Advertising

Carrefour has launched a solidarity campaign to help those most in need in relation to the impacts that the new Covid-19 has caused throughout society. While we are experiencing a complicated situation for everyone, many companies have shown genuine concern for the future of the country.

Of course, if we look at it from a very critical perspective, we will defend the position that the egalitarian world, fair for all, as our old Marx wanted, will hardly exist.

However, after the end of this stressful period in which we are living, we will undoubtedly pay more attention, or rather, we will value more the companies that provide more solidarity with those who have fewer resources to survive the madness of the capitalist world.

About Carrefour's campaign to reduce the impacts of Coronavirus

Carrefour has launched a campaign to donate 15 million reais in food and basic food baskets to families who are being impacted by the new coronavirus. In addition, the standard retailer will seek support from suppliers and consumers.

According to publication of Exame, Carrefour will allocate donations to eight NGOs that operate in regions where its concentration of stores is highest, to help people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

What has been done so far?

According to official information from the company, around R$2.3 million has already been donated to city halls and governments, such as the city hall of São Paulo, which received around R$1 million in basic food baskets. Consumers can make contributions through a website or when purchasing items in Atacadão stores.

The vice president of institutional relations at the Carrefour Brasil group, Stéphane Engelhard, said that while isolation is necessary to protect thousands of lives, he will continue to understand that the company's main social role is to offer help to those in need.

He also said that contributing to society, especially in this complex time when we don't know when the end will come, is the role of large companies to minimize the impacts. He said:

We are a listed company whose goal is to make a profit, we cannot forget that. But at this moment, we need to return part of the profit to society.
