In October 2019, the company had agreed to purchase 49% from fintech Ewally, with an option to purchase control after three years.

The points acquired are located in the following states: Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Goiás, Bahia, Pernambuco, Ceará, Mato Grosso, Alagoas, Santa Catarina, Pará, Amazonas, Piauí, Sergipe, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraíba and Tocantins, in addition to the Federal District.

Makro still intends to sell 14 more units

With this sale, Macro, a brand of the Dutch group SHV, now has 38 stores in the country. However, the expectation is to sell 14 stores to other chains, as the goal is to focus on operations in the state of São Paulo, where there are still 24 stores.

According to the company, the closing of the deals is subject to final approval by CADE (Administrative Council for Economic Defense).

Makro said in a statement that it will continue its operations in Brazil, including the 24 stores in the state of São Paulo, which need to be revitalized and expanded. The company also said it will invest in a new perishables distribution center.

Carrefour Brasil ended 2019 with 692 stores in the country, of which 186 are Atacadão.
