It seems like we are living in a gap in time. Since Brazil entered quarantine and social isolation due to the New Coronavirus pandemic, some things seem to have stopped. The closure of bars, restaurants and leisure spaces gives the feeling that life is not going on. Regarding work, some professions and activities have been directly affected, harming the economy and also the lives of these professionals who saw their jobs disappear overnight.

While professionals such as marketers and copywriters gained prominence, activities that require more direct contact suffered declines, which affected the country's economy. According to an article published in the newspaper O Globo, Brazil's economy is likely to plummet 9.1% in 2020. In other words, is it time to tighten your belts?

The moment is for calm and care

Yes. With this uncertainty in the economy and job creation, it is necessary to hold back a bit on spending. Even with the Federal Government allowing withdrawals from the FGTS and emergency aid, workers are still experiencing uncertainty about the future of their jobs.

And what will happen to professions that can be done remotely?

This was already a trend that will increase with the pandemic. For some professionals, working from home is a promising alternative that brings more productivity, as there is no commuting time, for example.

Some companies have already taken the opportunity to adopt full-time home office and others, such as banks, will stipulate certain days of the week.

And what about IT professionals?

It has pros and cons. Let's understand what they are.

Flexible hours, no commute, and increased productivity are the advantages for these professionals. 931% of IT professionals in Brazil are working remotely. However, this distance increases, in some cases, attacks and some security problems. Another point is that communication may suffer because they are not talking in person with their superiors and coworkers.

Within this context, the increase in work may come from a number of factors, including: VPN problems, actions in video conferences, bandwidth restrictions, password resets and sending messages.

With companies closing and others remodeling, IT professionals are becoming increasingly important. This is because, for this “new normal”, some aspects of technology need to be improved. And how can IT help?

  • Customizing computers for remote access
  • Infrastructure adjustments to support remote access and additional loads
  • Security shield to prevent attacks
  • Work to combat increased vulnerability from access beyond the Firewall boundaries
  • Development and maintenance of websites and online stores

Innovation, speed and commitment. The new normal will increasingly demand these characteristics. With this, good IT professionals can gain notoriety and also job security, going against a large part of society that is experiencing uncertainty. Therefore,  online recruitment for the IT area has become an alternative. Thus, it is possible to hire qualified professionals who will greatly help in this readaptation of consumption.

What requirements should a company observe when hiring an IT

First of all, availability. With home office work, technicians who are not hired end up taking on more than one job and this should be discussed to avoid future scheduling or delivery problems.

Furthermore, hiring should proceed as with any other professional, with applications for aptitude tests for the area, investigation into the technician's professional background and dialogues to align expectations.

Programmers are usually more shy during interviews. Therefore, it is important that the recruiter understands this characteristic and applies the selection process correctly to avoid losing a good professional.
