According to Embraer, although nothing has yet been defined for the São José employees, the majority of the 16,000 employees have agreed to the terms.

Last Friday (10) Embraer reported that the majority of its workers in the country accepted the proposals for salary reduction and temporary suspension of contracts. The measures, adopted for this time of economic crisis caused by the new coronavirus, begin to take effect from Monday (13).

According to the aircraft company, which has approximately 16,000 employees, the terms offered were accepted by the São Paulo Engineers' Union, Sindiaeroespacial, and the Botucatu Metalworkers' Union. Together, they represent workers from São Paulo, Campinas, São José, Sorocaba, Gavião Peixoto, and Taubaté.

However, for the employees of the Metalworkers Union of São José dos Campos, 35% of the company's total workers in Brazil, nothing is yet defined.

Voting

The possibility of the category having the right to vote on the proposal is being negotiated.

Embraer's current plan is to reduce working hours and pay for remote workers for three months. These employees will be entitled to federal government assistance of up to R$1,453 and job security for a period proportional to the agreement.

Those who enter into a temporary layoff for two months will be guaranteed job security for the same period, with a salary reduction of 25%. Those who continue working at the factory will not have their hours or salary changed.

Removal measures

Since the end of March, Embraer has implemented social distancing measures for most of its employees. Essential operations have continued, and most employees have either gone on collective leave or worked remotely.

Negotiation in San Jose

Still without an agreement, Embraer and the São José Metalworkers' Union are negotiating a proposal. "There are items we disagree with in the company's proposal. We represent most of the workers. So, we're going to another meeting next week," said Embraer union leader Herbert Claros.

As no Embraer proposal has yet been put to a vote, employees have been instructed to work in home office. Those whose role does not allow them to continue on collective vacation until new decisions are made.

Starting Monday, the measures will come into effect for workers who accept the agreement. The duration will be 60 to 90 days. They will also guarantee employment for the period corresponding to the time they are on reduced hours and salary or suspended from their contracts.

Employees who are carrying out essential activities and working in person will continue without any contractual changes.
