Bolsonaro responds after being the target of strong criticism
The president Jair Bolsonaro said this Monday (20) that he is against the end of democracy. “As far as the president is concerned, democracy and freedom above all,” he told journalists when leaving the Alvorada Palace in the morning.
"People usually conspire to get into power. I'm already in power, so I'm the president of the Republic," said Bolsonaro, who, at another point, stated:
“I am, indeed, the Constitution.”
Bolsonaro was not comfortable with the criticism he received for participating in a rally by supporters of pro-military intervention, with banners and chants calling for military intervention, shouting against Congress and the Supreme Federal Court, and pressure for an end to the social isolation recommended by the WHO (World Health Organization) against the pandemic.
As we can see from the official disclosures on their profiles online. This Sunday, on top of a pickup truck, in front of the Army headquarters and addressing a crowd of supporters in favor of military intervention in Brazil,
The head of state made other statements
We are in a different government: “the time of scoundrelism is over” and shouted slogans like “now the people are in power” and “we don’t want to negotiate anything”.
"We don't want and won't negotiate anything. We want action for Brazil," declared the president, who participated in a second consecutive day of demonstrations in Brasília, provoking crowds amid the coronavirus pandemic. "Enough of the old politics. Now it's Brazil above all and God above all."
But as expected, the president tried to change his tone.
"Take my speech. I didn't say anything against any other branch of government. Quite the opposite. We want to get back to work; the people want it.
"All they were doing there was saluting the Brazilian Army. That's it, nothing more. Anything else is fabrication, an attempt to inflame a nation that is still within normal limits," Bolsonaro said this morning.
