Technically, the quarantine measures should have been extended until April 7, but the Government of São Paulo, led by, decided to extend the quarantine period for the next few weeks, because São Paulo is the most concentrated place for infections.
According to São Paulo government agencies, the announcement of the extension of the quarantine was made this Monday (6) at Palácio dos Bandeirantes, in Morumbi. According to the government, the decision was made after a meeting with 15 doctors from the state's coronavirus contingency center. As in the first 15 days of quarantine, the recommendation is that people stay at home.
Governor Doria said that services considered essential will continue to operate. “Municipal or metropolitan guards must act and, if necessary, call on the Military Police so that any movement or gathering of people can be immediately dispersed,” he said in a statement to the press.

Quarantine in São Paulo – Why is it important?
The government says it is following the guidelines of the World Health Organization, as are all other countries in the world.
It is also worth remembering that extending the quarantine is important for the State to organize the public health network for the growing number of patients. Since the arrival of the new coronavirus, 1,524 new ICU beds have been activated in state, municipal and philanthropic hospitals.
Government of Sao Paulo – Cases in Sao Paulo
The government became more alert after identifying that hospitalizations of patients with confirmed cases of the disease in ICU beds increased by 1,500% since March 20, rising from 33 to 524 on the 3rd, according to the state government. Deaths increased by 180% in one week.
The situation in São Paulo is very worrying. The number of coronavirus cases in the state currently stands at 4,620. In total, more than 400 hospitals – both public and private – have reported suspected cases. The total number of deaths is 275, according to the Ministry of Health. Across the country, there are 11,130 confirmed cases and 486 deaths.
