In Mato Grosso, soybeans are behind the 15% increase in exports in March, in contrast to February. These are data from the economic situation bulletin of Imea (Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics). The analysis indicates that the increase in foreign trade occurred mainly because of the growth in soybean exports, which reached 14%.

Some other items also saw an increase in exports. These are: meat, wood and charcoal. As a result, and amid the new coronavirus pandemic, the price of products exported to China rose considerably, from US$644 million to US$715 million.

Most of the exported products are destined for China, which increased by 7%. Among these items, soybeans had the largest increase, of 14%.

However, even with the increase of 4.0%, the Gross Production Value (VBP) of agriculture in Mato Grosso, the production value in agriculture fell by 1.0% in the state, in March, compared to the previous month.

This decrease was triggered by the value of livestock, which fell by 14.8% due to the drop in price and slaughter projections for cattle, poultry and pigs. In addition to the reduction in the forecast for milk collection in 2020, due to uncertainty regarding the demand for animal protein and dairy products, resulting from the widespread crisis caused by the new coronavirus pandemic.
