US President Donald Trump once again contradicted medical advice last Thursday (23) by suggesting that disinfectant injections could be used to treat Covid-19. This obviously caused controversy.
What was this statement like? Check it out in full below:
“And then I see the disinfectant, which kills [the coronavirus] in a minute. One minute! And is there a way we can do something, an injection inside or almost a cleaning?
He continued: Because, you see, it goes into the lungs and does a tremendous job in the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that out. So, it will have to be seen by the doctors, but it sounds interesting to me.” Doctors were astonished

Trump also alluded to alleged treatments for the coronavirus
This time it was with ultraviolet radiation, again without scientific corroboration. “Maybe it’s possible, maybe it’s not. I’m not a doctor. But I’m, like, a person who has a good you-know-what,” he said.
Medical authorities around the world reacted with outrage to Trump's statement. "I certainly would not recommend taking disinfectant internally," FDA official Stephen Hahn told CNN.
Trump has promoted the use of hydroxychloroquine, a drug used to treat malaria and other diseases, but there are not enough studies to confirm its effectiveness against the new coronavirus — this week, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in the US contraindicated the use of the drug to treat Covid-19.
Trump made clarifications to avoid further confusion.
“I sarcastically asked a question to the journalists,” the US President said on Friday when asked about his comments on the effectiveness of disinfectants in combating the Covid-19 pandemic.
