Finally, our head of state, President Jair Messias Bolsonaro, did what we were all waiting for, the most anticipated appointment in recent weeks.
On Monday (4) delegate Rolando Alexandre de Souza was appointed as the new director-general of the Federal Police. The appointment was published in an extra edition of the “Diário Oficial da União”.
After all, who is Rolando de Souza?
This was what everyone was waiting for this month: a new director of the PF. Rolando was appointed the new director of the PF. This was made official five days after Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), suspended Bolsonaro's decision to appoint the director-general of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin), also delegate Alexandre Ramagem, to command the PF.
According to a publication by O GLOBO, it is known that Souza is already a delegate of the Federal Police. He was superintendent of the PF in Alagoas between 2018 and 2019. In September 2019, at the invitation of Alexandre Ramagem, he assumed the position of Secretary of Planning and Management of Abin.
At the PF, Rolando was also head of the Service for the Suppression of Misappropriation of Public Funds and held leadership positions in the Division for Combating Financial Crimes and in the superintendence in Rondônia.
Crisis in the government still remains
Last week, as we talked about in this matter here, we had a terrible crisis after Moro's dismissal and other conflicts involving the government. And of course, the suspension of Ramagem's appointment to the Federal Police upset Bolsonaro, who last week stated that Minister Alexandre de Moraes' decision was "political."
A friend of the president's children and responsible for Bolsonaro's security from the campaign to the inauguration, Ramagem was chosen by Bolsonaro to replace Mauricio Valeixo, a trusted name of former minister Sérgio Moro, however, he was unsuccessful.
However, as we can see, Bolsonaro chooses Ramagem's right-hand man to command the PF.
