Rondônia Seeks Partnership to Commercialize Amazon Tambaqui in the National Market

With the aim of promoting and developing the fish farming production chain in Rondônia, the State government, through the State Secretariat of Agriculture (Seagri), has sought new partnerships and actions to spread the culture of tambaqui in Amazon on the Brazilian table.

According to Seagri secretary Evandro Padovani, the sale of Amazonian tambaqui in São Paulo will strengthen and develop fish farming activities in Rondônia.

"We are all united in favor of the fish production chain in Brazil and the Amazon. I thank the governor, Colonel Marcos Rocha, for the encouragement and support to our production sector.

We are here seeking improvements for the fish production chain in our state, which has been growing every year,” he said.

Padovani also reported that the Secretary of National Aquaculture and Fisheries, Jorge Seif, has given full support to the promotion of fish production.

Meanwhile, to improve domestic marketing in the country and in the international market.

For Acripar president Francisco Hidalgo, this is a crucial opportunity for the state to introduce Amazonian tambaqui to the national market. "This is another investment, another crucial step to overcome our challenges and attract the attention of not only consumers but also investors to the processing of this fish," he emphasized.

Therefore, the technical director of Sebrae Rondônia emphasized that this partnership aims to promote the tambaqui market in Brazil and expand consumption among the Brazilian population. "It's a major challenge for the production sector and the organizations to promote and grow this sector, which is so important and rich for the state of Rondônia," he said.

 

Fish Consumers

"It's a great pleasure to welcome you to São Paulo to discuss the marketing of tambaqui. This Amazonian fish and the opportunities we have, not only in the São Paulo market, although considered the largest fish consumer market in Brazil, but also in the international market, which has been seeking fish protein.

Without a doubt, by concentrating our efforts, we will be able to expand this treasure of ours, which is Brazil's fishing,” said Secretary Gustavo Junqueira.

According to Seagri data, Rondônia is the largest producer of captive-caught native fish and the third-largest producer in Brazil. Tambaqui production accounts for 90% of the state's production, followed by jatuarana (6%), pintado (2%), and pirarucu (2%). Rondônia currently leads national tambaqui production.

The delegation from Rondônia also visited São Paulo City Hall to seek partnerships.
