THE Family Grant Program is an initiative of Federal Government which aims to transfer income to needy families in situations of poverty and extreme poverty in Brazil.

THE Family Allowance It was instituted during the Lula government in 2003 and became law in 2004, becoming a right for all Brazilian families that meet these requirements and live in poverty.  

THE Family Grant Program Its objective, in addition to income distribution, is to combat hunger, promote food security and access to public services, such as free healthcare, education and social assistance.

Which families are entitled to Bolsa Família?

Families living in poverty or extreme poverty can apply for assistance from Family Allowance and who have an income of up to R$ 89.00 per person for families in extreme poverty. And poor families with an income of up to R$ 178.00.

How do I register for Bolsa Família?

To register and be entitled to Family Allowance, in addition to meeting the requirements mentioned above, you must look for a department responsible for the program in your municipality, taking your CPF and proof of income, as well as identification documents for all family members. 

In some regions of Brazil, the sector responsible for registering families is the Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS). Through this registration, it is possible to have a record in Single Registry (CadÚnico) that every year it is through this that it is possible to monitor all the families that are part of the program.

When a family's registration is approved, a letter is sent to the registered address informing them that they are now part of the Family Allowance. As well as all instructions on the Family Grant Card and how to withdraw the benefit at one of Caixa's branches.
