The total suspension of classes in private and public schools is expected to take place on Monday (23rd).

The government of São Paulo and the City Hall of the capital of São Paulo made a statement this Friday (13). A measure of gradual suspension of classes in state and municipal schools will be implemented starting on Monday (16).

“We will not interrupt classes under any circumstances. We need to plan with families. There is no point in stopping classes and having children stay with their grandparents, who are the people we need to worry about the most,” said Rossieli Soares, the state’s Secretary of Education.são paulo coronavírus suspensão das aulas

“Starting next Monday, any student who can, will not attend school, as long as the solution is not to leave the students with their grandparents,” stated Bruno Caetano, municipal secretary of Education.

According to the secretary and governor João Doria, schools will be open next week for prevention guidance. For both, families need time to organize themselves.

“We are giving families more than 10 days to organize,” emphasizes Rossieli.

“We are planning remote activities with data sponsorship: students will log in at a certain time so that students can access the application for free even if they do not have their own internet,” he explains.

Doria and Caetano recommended and asked families to update their address and telephone information so that instructions can reach more people more easily and accurately. The state education system comprises 5,100 schools and serves 3.5 million students.

In the state, around 2.3 million students are currently enrolled in private schools and more than 600 thousand teachers.

The city of São Paulo has 4,500 private schools and the state of São Paulo has 10,000 schools.

Officially, the state has 56 confirmed cases of coronavirus as of today (Friday 13).
