Last month, when the pandemic in Brazil was not yet at full alert, Paulo Guedes emphasized in a conference call that the government is making efforts to help the population during this period of social isolation.
On Saturday afternoon (4), the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, participated in a teleconference by YouTube with some retail business owners from different parts of the country, who are affiliated with the National Confederation of Retail Managers. During his participation, he emphasized how the government is striving to help the population.
At the beginning of the broadcast, the minister highlighted how the government is striving to help the population during the period of social isolation, especially retirees, Bolsa Família program beneficiaries, and informal workers.

Bolsonaro's government "changed the axis of the economy"
According to the minister's statements, in the last week alone, a set of measures were announced that represent amounts greater than the spending budget that was planned for all ministries this year.
The resolution signals a shift in economic policy, which before the crisis caused by the novel coronavirus was focused on fiscal control, reducing the public deficit, and cutting expenses.
"We shifted our focus from structural reforms to emergency measures, which confirm our federative pact," said Guedes.
For the minister, Brazil is currently riding out the pandemic wave through social isolation and protective measures. And it will soon have to ride out the second wave, an economic one, as activities in various sectors have come to a standstill. "We will weather these waves together," he stated.
Paulo Guedes says that challenges lie ahead.
Paulo Guedes maintained a positive tone and offered credit guarantees, reinforcing the importance of maintaining the flow of payments for companies' ongoing expenses, such as those for utilities (e.g., water, electricity, and telephone services) and suppliers.
In his economic analysis, Guedes states: "We must keep the Brazilian economy breathing and oxygenated. We can renegotiate everything, but we cannot disrupt the payment network."
The minister also called for unity and support from businesspeople.
"If from a health perspective we need isolation, which goes against our emotional nature (...), from a production network perspective, this capillarity cannot be lost." He also stated: "One can save the other. We cannot let go of each other's hands," he concluded in a statement to the news portal. Value.
In recent days, the Ministry of Economy met with around 190 associations and received more than a hundred suggestions and requests for solving the economic crisis.
