The return of flights to capitals and cities meets the Federal Government's concern in maintaining a network to continue integrating Brazilian states.

On Friday the 27th, the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) reported that it had received the latest flight network adjustments from Azul, Gol and Latam. The companies will offer flights to the capitals of 26 states and the Federal District, as well as 19 other cities in the country.

Flights will begin tomorrow (28) and are scheduled to run until the end of April.

The distribution will be in weekly frequencies with: 723 flights in the Southeast, 153 in the Northeast, 155 flights in the South, 135 in the Central-West and 75 flights to the North. The return of flights meets the Federal Government's concern of maintaining a network to continue integrating the Brazilian states. Adjustments were made so that no state is left without at least one air connection.

Risk of downtime

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the sharp reduction in the number of flights in March raised the possibility of a complete shutdown of air services. The emergency network is 91,61% smaller than that originally planned by the companies for this period. Considering the schedules of Azul, Gol and Latam, the drop was 56,06% of locations served, going from 106 to 46. The number of flights per week fell from 14,781 to 1,241.

ANAC CEO Juliano Noman highlighted the importance of the measure to maintain air transport: “Aviation in several countries is coming to a complete standstill. What we are doing in Brazil is because we know that air service is essential to help the country overcome this unprecedented scenario, allowing the movement of materials, health professionals and people who still need to travel,” he said.

The Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE), of the Ministry of Economy, and the Ministry of Infrastructure, also participate in the action.
